Marc Potts is a fantasy artist and occasional author, whose visionary art has received wide acclaim through the exposure of his work on book and magazine covers, most notably as a cover artist for various pagan publications such as Pentacle, The Cauldron, Pagan Dawn, The Hedgewytch and the Australian publication 'Pagan Times'. Intrigued by the outer world and propelled by the inner, his work is an attempt to merge the natural and the supernatural, often with a nod towards the macabre and the bizarre.
“The beauty of the natural world has always inspired my art and I’m lucky enough to live and work near the wild and beautiful landscape of Dartmoor, an area that has inspired so many artists, writers and poets. A lot of my art is based around my spirituality as well as the landscape that I see both around me and within me. My subjects are the nature-spirits and elementals, manifest representations of the ancient spirits of place, although sometimes my paintings are representations of goddesses and gods, both named and un-namable. Although I’m probably best known as a faery artist, a lot of my work has a darker, pagan edge to it.” “Folklore and mythology play a large part in both my artwork and my writing, whether I’m writing and illustrating my own inventions for the sheer hell of it and the pure joy of creating, or whether I’m working to a brief for a commissioned piece of work. I am an avid devourer of all things folkloric, tales from all over the world, and I am always reading, scribbling notes in books or doodling as the inspiration takes hold.”
“I usually have a few paintings, and maybe a couple of stories, on the go at any one time. Occasionally the inspiration for a new picture is so fierce and consuming, that I’ll temporarily drop everything else just to get it down, start to finish.” “Currently, I am working on a series of short stories and folktales centred around Dartmoor, an ongoing project on Tree-Spirits, a book on Goblins and one on Dragons"
