Faerie, Fantasy & Visionary Arts Event 2009..... a review
Britain's first Event dedicated solely to the Faerie, Fantasy & Visionary Arts has been hailed by press, visitors and exhibitors as the most tremendous success!!!
Featuring all branches of the Arts.... including the painted arts, sculpture, artisan crafts, music, dance, folkloric writings, comedy, poetry, story and SO much more... the array of talent was supreme, with all of the international guest artists in agreement that this was the best event of its type.... a huge compliment, not only to the event organisers, but also to the outstandingly talented exhibitors and performers in attendance.
The weekend began with a fun day dedicated to the magical imaginations of children and featured storytelling by the truly brilliant Elizabeth-Jane Baldry, Faerie Wing and Goblin Mask making workshops & film screenings.... the children also enjoying a delightful Faerie Tea Party.
As day turned to evening the guests arrived for the MASQUERADE BALL
International concert Harpist Elizabeth-Jane Baldry welcomed all.... a goddess casting spells with her golden harp, leading us into the Otherworld. And then the Ball began...
Oberon & Titania invited all to their Realm... to stay and be enchanted for a while. An wildly beautiful Ballet performance by Kate Culahan as the 'Spirit of Dartmoor' took the audience's breath away...and led to the hauntingly beautiful Beck Sian, who left the audience spellbound and utterly bewitched! And dancing before her as she played... two mischievous Imps from the land of Faerie! The breathtaking Daughters of Elvin took to the stage- masked grotesques weaving entrancing music, half hidden by swirling mist, delighting and thriling the guests as dancer Ricardo entwined threads of wonder in the minds of all! More Ballet followed... beautiful Faerie princess, Chantelle, moved all with a heartrending performance to a new composition by Beck... and we were truly honoured to have Titania herself dance to Beck's rendition of Greensleeves. For Oberon's pleasure the court jester Elfic astounded with his feats of daring upon the unicyle, and madcap juggling! As the hours drew later, and we approached the witching hour Daughters of Elvin once more took us on a heady rollercoaster ride of a wild Medieval Ceaillidh & Ricardo wove his spells leading us in spinning circles of magical madness!
The FAERIE, FANTASY & VISIONARY ARTS DAY EVENT was a sheer inspiration! Internationally famous artists Brian & Wendy Froud, Josephine Wall, Marc Potts, Linda Ravenscroft, Ian Daniels & Terri Windling were joined by over 35 other brilliant artists including painters, sculptors, a film armourer, a mosaicist, metalsmiths, a stonecarver, woodcarvers, digital artists, jewellers, pewterworkers, a felt sculptor, polymer doll sculptors, writers, musicians, pyrographers, a precious metal clay sculptor, a hand made tile maker, a candle-maker,clothing and accessories designer-makers.... the array of arts and crafts was breathtaking! The event as visited by many members of the press, both local and from further afield, many press photographers and cameramen!
The day also included fantastic lectures and talks by Brian & Wendy Froud, Daughters of Elvin, Terri Windling, Elizabeth-Jane Baldry... and so much more! Many of the artists and craftspeople took the opportunity to paint or work on their latest creations while exhibiting including Josephine Wall, one of the UK's most amazing, famous & most wonderful artists... all in all it created the most amazing artistic energy & atmosphere! So much of our feedback has been that visitors have been inspired to get creative!!! And feedback from the artists... including the intenational guests has been that this was the best art event they had ever attended.... and they WILL be back!!!
