NEW NEWS FAERIE & FANTASY ARTS EVENT 29th NOVEMBER (October update)
World of Froud With Brian & Wendy Froud. A lecture with slideshow
following the international art careers of Brian & Wendy Froud. Includes
Brian’s career as one of the world’s most famous book illustrators specialising
in Faerie art (including Faeries with Alan Lee, Goblins of Labyrinth
with Terry Jones, Runes of Elfland with Professor Ari Berk). Also includes
his artistic concept work on the films Labyrinth & The Dark Crystal.
Wendy will be talking about her career as puppet maker and protégé of
Jim Henson on The Muppets, also her work on the film
With Katy Marchant, Steve Tyler, Ricardo Barros.
Fun tutorial and discussion with two of the musicians &
composers from the band and their amazing principal dancer. The musicians
will give a talk about the band, baroque music, medieval music & dance.
They will give demonstrations of the instruments, talk about the Commedia
d'el Arte style masks used in the performances, and dancer Ricardo Barros
will give demonstrations of Elizabethan courtly dance. A fully costumed
demonstration.
Did you know that Faerietales were originally not written for children? Terri Windling, writer of over 40 books of folklore and faerietale, and winner of 9 world book awards will guide us through the adult role in faerietales… a place filled with passions, danger and morality lessons… a place of the good, the bad and the ugly! Actor and Commedia d’el Arte performer Howard Gayton will act various roles. (lecture only seen before in New York & at one other UK venue!)
Rare British Faerietales and from Faerietale to Film. International concert harpist and film-maker Elizabeth- Jane will give a talk on what happens to faerietales that don’t get told, that don’t get published, that don’t get made into cartoons… they disappear! Elizabeth-Jane will give examples of these rare faerie and folktales, talk about her mission as film-maker and director preserving these amazing tales in the medium of film. Presentation will include film stills, trailers of the new films and costumes from films currently in post production.
Women in the Faerie Arts. Women have always been
a vibrant, successful part of the faerie/fantasy arts… historically to
the present day. This will be an informal discussion with some of our
women artists, performers &
craftspeople. They will discuss the influences on their work- poetry,
the Pre-Raphaelites, Victorian faerie culture, folklore, spirituality,
etc. Probable artists- Linda Ravenscroft (international illustrator and
writer of How to Draw and Paint series of books), Beck Sian (songwriter
who uses the poems of Keats, Yeats, Tennyson),
Luna Moon Hare- A Journey Through the Seasons. Artist and author Wendy will guide us through a visual journey through the seasons using Luna Moon Hare… a beautiful character from her book. This enchanting visual feast and following Q&A session is an absolute joy!
Artist and writer Emily will talk us through the imagery of her latest intriguing venture… the Transparent Tarot! Using the deck she will hold a Q&A session about her work on this fascinating art project.
A Journey to the Realm. Take a guided visualisation
into the realm of Faerie, find who your Faerie guide is, find Faerie
treasure…. Rejoin this Realm, discuss who you met and what you saw…. & take
a real gift from the otherworld.... this is what it is to be a visionary
artist!
More Art and Craft Workshops... Yet to be confirmed
At the event there will also be a unique opportunity to watch some of the world’s greatest artists at work on new pieces while at the exhibition! Josephine Wall Josephine, one of the world’s most famous surrealist Fantasy artists will be bringing her latest artwork to paint at the exhibition. A chance to see this incredible artist at work. Josephine is also happy to chat about her art, influences, and work. Don’t miss this unique opportunity… it is VERY rare that Josephine ever paints in public!!! Marc Potts, internationally famous fine artist working within the genre of Faerie and the Visionary arts, folklorist and writer, will be drawing goblins and dragons while at the event. Marc’s work is inspired by the natural & ‘unnatural’world around him… see if you can spot the creatures that inspire this much sought after artist’s work! A chance NOT to be missed to watch this artist’s artist at work!
