I have spent
my whole professional life, since 1987, working as a freelance
designer, artist, artisan jeweller and sculptress in the genre
of Faerie, Fantasy and Mythological inspired arts. In this
time I have had the privilege to write for magazines, create
fantasy costumes and concepts for theatre and ballet productions,
and have met the most amazing fellow artists, artistes and
artisans working within the same genre.
Through these friendships,
and my experiences, the seed of an idea was sown- to create
a new series of events for myself and my friends…. old friends,
new friends…. and those I am yet to meet! A place and events
where we could come together in a celebration of Faerie,
Fantasy, Mythology, creativity and inspiration.
And so, from this
seed grew…………….
LAUGHING MAGPIE PRODUCTIONS.
My aims with this
venture are:
- To bring together artists, artisans, craftspeople, writers
and performers etc. working within the Faerie, Fantasy and Mythological
genres... and those who love Faerie, in an environment and atmosphere of mutual respect,
and to help facilitate creativity, inspiration, and a sense
of security and equality.
-
- To give a meeting point and place for artists, artistes,
artisans, craftspeople etc. who, by the nature of their work can lead
quite solitary lives and may feel a lack of connection
to others within the genre.
-
- To give the artists, artisans, artistes etc. a forum
and exhibition where they can meet the public and other
artists, where they can mingle in an atmosphere of friendliness
and community.
-
- To provide an event where students of the arts can
meet professional artists, artisans, artistes etc. working
within the Faerie, Fantasy and Mythological genres. An event
where the students can meet these artists, craftspeople and
performers in an atmosphere of encouragement and openess.
It is this encouragement for the young who love our genre that
will keep the genre alive, current and visible.
-
- To provide an atmosphere of mutual respect for every
visiting artist, artiste, artisan, etc. and their work. A place
where discussions can be held and ideas, opinions and experiences shared, in order to keep the genre alive and visible.
-
- To provide events that give a forum of communication
in order to facilitate ongoing creativity, encourage the
flow of creative energy, bring a sense of wellbeing, and
provide visibility to the public.
-
- To respect and cherish the ideas, points of view, experiences
and craft of all artists, artistes, artisans etc. who are in
attendance, and those in absence.
-
- To always provide at least one separate annual event
specifically for young children with the theme of Faerie,
Fantasy and Mythology. Children are the future of us all,
our work is their legacy and they will be its custodians
in the future. They are the hope for a future, better
world.
-
- To provide a space within the event where the artists,
artisans, artistes etc. can sell their original art, licensed
merchandise products, books, CDs, clothing etc. direct to the public.
-
- To provide beautifully
presented events where people can meet and express their
interpretation of Faerie, Fantasy and Mythology, make friends,
meet interesting people and most of all…….. HAVE FUN!!!
